Note: Doxycycline is safe for use during the first 18 weeks of pregnancy (16 weeks postconception) after which it may affect the formation of the baby's teeth and cause discolouration. The use of doxycycline in the treatment of malaria is accepted because the small risk to the fetus is outweighed by the benefits to the pregnant person and fetus. Prophylaxis in high-risk situations is also justified.
