Self-help for people who gamble
For some people who gamble, online self-assessment may be a more acceptable starting point than a discussion with a healthcare professional. Online self-assessment tools are available on support service websites such as Gambling Help Online.
Although most behavioural research in gambling describes in-person therapy, internet-based self-directed interventions also reduce gambling behaviour and symptomsHodgins, 2019. These may be of particular benefit for people who are not able to engage in other ways with services. Self-help modules are available at Gambling Help Online. Self-directed mobile app-based interventions are also available, such as:
- the Reset app available on the Gambler’s Help website
- 100 Day Challenge
- the Gambling Therapy app (available from the United Kingdom charity, Gordan Moody)
- Gamble Less and Habit Hacker (New South Wales GambleAware).
