Corneal abrasion and foreign bodies
Chloramphenicol eye drops or ointment have been used as prophylaxis in corneal abrasions, and following removal of corneal foreign bodies, despite a lack of data to support this practice. Consider:
1chloramphenicol 0.5% eye drops, 1 drop into the affected eye, 4 times daily until the pain resolves chloramphenicol chloramphenicol chloramphenicol
OR
1chloramphenicol 1% eye ointment, apply 1.5 cm into the affected eye, 4 times daily until the pain resolves. chloramphenicol chloramphenicol chloramphenicol
Review patients with a corneal abrasion or foreign body if pain worsens or persists beyond 2 to 3 days.
