Amoebic liver abscess in adults

For confirmed amoebic (Entamoeba histolytica) liver abscess in adults, usePandey, 2018:

1metronidazole 800 mg orally, 8-hourly for 7 days metronidazole metronidazole metronidazole

OR

If the patient is unable to tolerate oral therapy, use:

metronidazole 750 mg intravenously, 8-hourly for 7 days. metronidazole metronidazole metronidazole

To prevent relapse, eradicate cysts in the gut with a luminal amoebicide. In adults, use (either concurrently or following the above therapy):
