Immediate immune-mediated (IgE) hypersensitivity reactions

Immediate IgE-mediated (allergic) hypersensitivity is characterised by a reaction ranging in severity from mild urticaria or rash to more severe reactions including extensive urticaria, compromised airway, angioedema, hypotension, collapse or anaphylaxis. The reaction occurs soon after exposure to a drug, typically within minutes to 2 hours. Anaphylaxis is more likely with parenteral rather than oral administration.

Note: Not all immediate hypersensitivity reactions are severe.
