PID caused by Mycoplasma genitalium

Mycoplasma genitalium infection often fails to respond to azithromycin or doxycycline. Given the potential severe complications of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), if symptoms persist and a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) (eg polymerase chain reaction [PCR]) detects M. genitalium during empirical therapy, stop the empirical regimen and switch toBritish Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH), 2019Ong, 2023Workowski, 2021:
