Nonantibiotic strategies to prevent UTI in children

  • ensuring adequate fluid intake
  • adequately managing constipation
  • encouraging regular voiding of urine
  • wiping from front to back to avoid the spread of faecal flora
  • ensuring access to clean toilets to prevent delayed voiding of urine.

Cranberry products may reduce the recurrence of UTI in children without a neurogenic bladderWilliams, 2023. However, further research is required to confirm efficacy and determine the optimal product, dose and frequency.
