Setting for antimicrobial allergy testing
Allergy testing should only be performed by someone with expertise in antimicrobial allergy testing. It can occur in either the inpatient or outpatient setting.
Before undertaking allergy testing, consult a specialist clinician and obtain informed consent from the patient; see the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) website for a consent form. The following must also be available:
- a protocol
- medical supervision
- appropriately trained staff and equipment to manage severe allergic reactions (eg anaphylaxis).
