STI counselling
The management of a sexually transmissible infection (STI) provides an opportunity to discuss the prevention of future infections. If relevant, recommend:
- the use of condoms
- pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) against HIV
- postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV
- regular STI and HIV testing for those at ongoing risk
- Postexposure prophylaxis against STIs
- vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV), hepatitis A and hepatitis B; see the Australian Immunisation Handbook
- vaccination against mpox (monkeypox); see the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) clinical guidance on the use of vaccines for prevention of MPox.
If appropriate, also offer advice on contraception.
