Rehydration and other supportive measures for moderate or severe travellers' diarrhoea
For moderate or severe travellers’ diarrhoea, rehydration is the mainstay of therapy, and is essential for all patients, especially young children. Antidiarrhoeal drugs can be considered for adults with travellers’ diarrhoea; they can be used in combination with antibiotics. Do not use antidiarrhoeal drugs in children or in adults with bloody diarrhoea, high fever or systemic symptoms (because these adults may have invasive bacterial infection).
