Vancomycin monitoring in adults with central nervous system infection
There are limited data to inform the AUC24 and trough plasma concentration targets for vancomycin in adults with a central nervous system infection. Historically, higher vancomycin trough concentrations (ie more than 15 mg/L) were recommended because vancomycin penetration into the cerebrospinal fluid is variable; however, there are insufficient data to support this recommendation.
For information on vancomycin monitoring in patients with central nervous system infection, seek expert advice. In some instances, an alternative antibiotic may be preferred.
