Monitoring of bivalirudin

When bivalirudin is used for acute coronary syndromes (including during percutaneous coronary interventions), anticoagulation monitoring is not usually required.

The activated clotting time (ACT) measures the anticoagulant effect of bivalirudin, but when bivalirudin is given for patients with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) is used to monitor the anticoagulant effect.
