Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis

Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis is a common and benign incidental finding. Small well-demarcated hypopigmented macules are present on the arms and lower legs of people with sun-damaged skin. See here for photos of idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis. These macules are often interspersed with solar lentigines, and both become more common with increasing age. Sun protection may help the condition from worsening. Treatment is not medically necessary, but laser therapy, intense pulsed light, and chemical peels may reduce background hyperpigmentation, which can help reduce the appearance of the hypopigmented macules.
