Mental health and the National Disability Insurance Scheme

Some people with severe and chronic mental illness have permanent and significant disability that impacts on their ability to function in their daily life. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds disability supports that focus on a person’s functional ability, including supports that enable a person with a psychiatric condition to undertake activities of daily living and participate in the community and social and economic life. Clinical mental health supports (eg acute care, rehabilitation or recovery) are funded by the health system.

For more information about the NDIS and mental health, see the NDIS website.
