Emergency (postcoital) contraception for females with developmental disability

For emergency (postcoital) contraception, levonorgestrel or ulipristal is used as described in Emergency contraception.

Consider the female’s capacity to consent, and be alert to potential for sexual abuse (see How to ask about suspected abuse). The clinician should also consider whether the female needs ongoing contraception, and review her risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
