Developmental effects
Early developmental milestones in children with fragile X syndrome may be achieved later than average, or be mildly delayed. Fragile X syndrome can result in:
- global developmental delay
- intellectual disability
- affects most males, and 30 to 50% of females
- ranges from significant learning disability to profound intellectual disability, with most people in the mild to moderate range
- speech, language and communication difficulties
- poor fine and gross motor coordination
- specific learning difficulties.
