Other noninsulin antihyperglycaemic drugs (including short-acting injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 [GLP-1] receptor agonists) should be stopped on the day of the procedure.
Postoperatively, after extensive surgery, noninsulin antihyperglycaemic drugs should always be temporarily replaced with insulin treatment, because insulin doses can be tailored to achieve glycaemic targets, which improves postoperative outcomes. Follow local hospital protocols.
