Anorectal abscesses and fistulas are common. Patients with anorectal abscesses or fistulas should be managed by a surgeon with expertise in this area. Patients with Crohn disease who present with perianal and fistulising disease should always be managed by a gastroenterologist in consultation with a colorectal surgeon.
