Approach to assessment of nausea and vomiting
Nausea and vomiting are nonspecific symptoms that can be acute or chronic. Vomiting is identified as forceful expulsion of gastric contents and should be distinguished from effortless regurgitation (including Rumination syndrome).
The clinical context should always be considered when assessing patients with nausea and vomiting. Thorough clinical assessment of the patient is required, with particular focus on the duration of symptoms, associated symptoms, medical conditions and the patient’s regular medications.
Note: Consider the clinical context when assessing patients with nausea and vomiting.
