Management of autoimmune gastritis
Treatment of autoimmune gastritis aims to restore and maintain iron and vitamin B12 concentrations, if they are low. If oral iron supplements are not effective, intravenous iron infusions may be needed (see Iron deficiency). If the vitamin B12 concentration is low, supplementation with intramuscular vitamin B12 injection is usually required (see Vitamin B12 supplementation).
Although the value and cost effectiveness of endoscopic surveillance for gastric mucosal dysplasia and cancer have not been confirmed, endoscopy is commonly recommended every 3 to 4 years for patients with autoimmune gastritis.
