Noncoeliac gluten sensitivity
Noncoeliac gluten sensitivity describes gastrointestinal symptoms that occur after eating wheat, if coeliac disease and wheat allergy has been excluded.
At the time of writing there is considerable controversy about whether this condition truly exists. Bloating and diarrhoea may improve with exclusion of bread, pasta and other wheat-based foods. It is probable that fructans in wheat, rather than gluten or gliadins are the cause of these symptoms. No definitive management advice can be given as evidence is lacking.
