Endoscopic therapy for GORD in adults

A range of endoscopic therapies have been developed for use in patients with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, with the aim of reducing the volume of refluxate. Controlled trials indicate these therapies have only modest efficacy in patients with no or small hiatus hernias; there are no data for patients with significant hiatus hernias. Endoscopic therapies cannot be recommended outside the clinical trial setting; many have been withdrawn because of poor efficacy or severe complications, including death.
