Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) supplementation in adults
See Clinical aspects of key water-soluble vitamins for the physiological function of pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and the effects of and risk factors for pyridoxine deficiency. Pyridoxine blood concentration does not need to be measured as the result does not dictate whether supplementation is required.
To treat pyridoxine deficiency in adults, use:
pyridoxine 25 to 100 mg orally, daily. pyridoxine pyridoxine pyridoxine
For dosing of pyridoxine in pregnant people with nausea and vomiting, see Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
Pyridoxine supplementation may cause peripheral neuropathy, resulting in numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Long-term use of pyridoxine and the use of pyridoxine dosages above 200 mg daily have been associated with peripheral neuropathy; however, there have been reports of peripheral neuropathy occurring with doses under 50 mg1Ghavanini, 2014Therapeutic Goods Administration, 2020.
