Approach to management of NAFLD
There is no drug treatment for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The cornerstone of management is lifestyle modification, targeting diet, physical activity and behavioural therapy, ideally with input from a multidisciplinary team (eg an accredited practising dietitian, exercise physiologist, psychologist).
The aims of management are weight loss (for overweight patients) and control of blood glucose and lipid levels.
Note: The aims of management are weight loss (for overweight patients) and control of blood glucose and lipid levels.
Use of herbal medicines or dietary supplements to treat nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is not supported by evidence.
