Lifestyle and general health measures as secondary prevention of stroke or transient ischaemic attack

After stroke or TIA, screen all patients for diabetes. Assess patients for obesity. Advise the patient to eat healthily1 and not to have more than two standard drinks of alcohol daily. Encourage physical activity. Advise patients who smoke to stop, and help them to do so2. See also behavioural risk factor modification.
