Care after a catastrophic terminal event
Catastrophic terminal events can be difficult to prognosticate.
For patients who survive, continue to assess and manage symptoms as appropriate; for patients in the last days of life, see Principles of care in the last days of life.
For additional advice on actively managing the following events in palliative care, see:
- life-threatening haemoptysis
- major bleeding
- malignant airway obstruction, including malignant upper airway obstruction and malignant central airway obstruction
- malignancy-related superior vena cava obstruction in palliative care.
For advice on what to do after a patient has died, see After-death care.
