Treatment of urinary frequency in palliative care
Management of urinary frequency depends on the cause, potential benefits and burdens of treatment, and the patient’s prognosis, overall goals of care and preferences—see Principles of symptom management in palliative care.
In addition to treating the cause of urinary frequency, manage symptoms of urge urinary incontinence or urinary retention.
For patients who have lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (eg reduced stream, urgency, hesitancy, terminal dribbling), urinary frequency may respond to tamsulosin.
