Oxygen therapy

If a patient experiencing a COPD exacerbation is hypoxaemic (oxygen saturation measured by pulse oximetry [SpO2] less than 88%), administer oxygen to maintain the SpO2 at 88 to 92%. Patients with COPD are at risk of hypercapnic respiratory failure during an exacerbation, and excessive supplemental oxygen is associated with increased mortality.
