Overview of pharmacological management for adult-onset Still disease

Adult-onset Still disease always requires pharmacological management; drug choice depends on the organs involved and disease severity.

For patients with life-threatening features of adult-onset Still disease, such as cardiac tamponade, pneumonitis, or macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), arrange urgent transfer to hospital for specialist management.

While some clinical features (eg joint pain) can be managed in the primary care setting with anti-inflammatory drugs, specialist referral is recommended for confirmation of the diagnosis and collaborative management.
