Arthritis and arthralgia in adult-onset Still disease

Most people with adult-onset Still disease present with arthralgia and arthritis. Arthralgia is seen in 70 to 100% of peopleTomaras, 2021. Although any joint may be affected, wrists, knees and ankles are most frequently involved.

Many people present with a polyarthritis involving the small joints, imitating rheumatoid arthritis. About one-third of people develop chronic arthritis, which can become severe and destructive, leading to joint deformity and functional disability. Up to 20% of people with adult-onset Still disease have evidence of joint abnormalities on X-ray.
