Early miscarriage in obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome
People with antiphospholipid (aPL) antibodies have an unusually high risk of recurrent early miscarriage (pregnancy loss in the first trimester). In one review of 1000 patients with obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome1, recurrent miscarriages (3 or more) constituted 38.6% of all obstetric complications. Obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome is often identified during investigation of patients with recurrent early miscarriagesCervera, 2002. These people also have an increased risk of both maternal venous thromboembolism (VTE) and late-pregnancy complications (eg fetal death)Schreiber, 2019.
