Long-term thromboprophylaxis for nonpregnant people with a history of obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome

Most specialists would not recommend long-term thromboprophylaxis for nonpregnant people with a history of obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome (in the absence of thrombotic antiphospholipid syndrome) because of the risk of bleeding. Low-dose aspirin may be considered in high-risk situations (eg long-haul flight, prolonged surgery or immobility, leg fracture)Erkan, 2001. It is important to re-evaluate the risk of thromboembolic events on an individual basis as circumstances change over time.
