Introduction to oligoarticular JIA

Onel, 2022Petty, 2004

Oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) most commonly affects large joints of the lower limbs in preschool-aged female children. If knee arthritis remains poorly controlled, flexion contractures and leg-length discrepancy may occur due to stimulation of the growth plate adjacent to the affected joint.

Children and adolescents with oligoarticular JIA are at high risk of developing asymptomatic anterior uveitis and require regular slit-lamp screening examinations; see JIA-associated uveitis for advice on screening and management.
