Management strategies with no benefit and potential harm for acute muscle strain
Dry needling and the following injection therapies are not recommended for the management of acute muscle strain because of insufficient evidence of benefit, and in some cases, inadequate study of treatment harms:
- autologous whole blood
- platelet-rich plasmaSetayesh, 2018Sheth, 2018Tischer, 2020
- platelet-rich fibrin matrix
- corticosteroid injection
- Traumeel (a homeopathic preparation allegedly containing traces of botanical and mineral ingredients)
- Actovegin (extracts of calf blood).
