Diagnosis of plantar fasciitis

David, 2017

Diagnosis of plantar fasciitis is clinical, based on history and examination. People present with pain at the anteromedial aspect of the calcaneus. The pain is worst during the first steps taken in the morning and improves during the day. Tenderness may be found over the medial calcaneal tuberosity.

Imaging is rarely required. Heel spurs are a common incidental X-ray finding. They are related to traction at the origin of the plantar fascia and are not associated with the pain of plantar fasciitis.
