Toxic concentration
Following ingestion of a lead object, the whole blood lead concentration can rise to a toxic concentration, but this is unpredictable. Systemic absorption is more likely if the lead object has been lodged in the stomach for more than 48 hours, or the object has not passed and it has been more than 14 days since the time of ingestion.
For the clinical effects associated with toxic whole blood lead concentration, see Toxic whole blood lead concentration and associated clinical effects.
