Urine drug screen
A urine drug screen is a rapid immunoassay to detect the presence of a limited panel of drugs, but frequently gives false results and is not likely to influence the acute management of a poisoning. The main role of a urine drug screen is to identify illicit drug use and trigger referral to an addiction medicine physician or drug and alcohol counsellor.
More comprehensive urine drug screens are available and are used in cases of suspected deliberate self-poisoning, nonaccidental injury in children, or drink-spiking.
