Observation and patient disposition after oral potassium poisoning
Admit patients with severe hyperkalaemia, ECG changes and cardiovascular toxicity after acute potassium ingestion, to a critical care unit until the serum potassium concentration normalises.
Observe patients for at least 12 hours after acute potassium ingestion, to ensure they have a normal serum potassium concentration, normal ECG and no tablets present on abdominal X-ray.
