Toxic dose
For methanol poisoning:
- in an adult, any deliberate ingestion is likely to result in toxicity
- more than 10 mL of 100% methanol (10 g) can cause significant metabolic toxicity
- more than 30 mL of 100% methanol (30 g) will cause coma and blindness
- in a child, more than 0.1 mL/kg of 100% methanol (0.1 g/kg) will cause significant toxicity.
For ethylene glycol poisoning:
- in adults and children, more than 1.4 mL/kg of 95% ethylene glycol is associated with significant toxicity and death.
