Toxic dose

Typical dose-related toxic effects of tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) are:

• less than 5 mg/kg—usually nontoxic
• between 5 to 20 mg/kg—sedation and anticholinergic effects
• more than 20 mg/kg—severe toxicity (coma, seizures, major cardiovascular toxicity).
