Observation and patient disposition after sulfonylurea poisoning
Admit patients with hypoglycaemia due to sulfonylurea poisoning for glucose therapy, blood glucose concentration monitoring and octreotide therapy. After stopping octreotide, observe the patient for at least 12 hours to ensure hypoglycaemia does not recur. Discharge the patient in daylight hours.
Discharge asymptomatic patients who have not been treated for hypoglycaemia after at least 12 hours of observation. Discharge the patient in daylight hours.
Stop any drugs that inhibit CYP2C9 and may have contributed to prolonged sulfonylurea effect.
