Management overview for tiagabine poisoning

Note: Contact a clinical toxicologist or poisons information centre if tiagabine poisoning is suspected.

Tiagabine is an antiepileptic drug. Poisoning due to tiagabine is rare, but potentially severe. Toxicity commonly involves seizures and an altered conscious state. Onset and resolution of toxicity are rapid.

If tiagabine poisoning is suspected, contact a clinical toxicologist or poisons information centre (13 11 26). Most patients will survive tiagabine poisoning with supportive care and seizure control. There are no specific antidotes or interventions for the management of tiagabine poisoning, and extracorporeal techniques such as haemodialysis are unlikely to be beneficial.
