Observation and patient disposition after poisoning due to less-sedating antihistamines
Admit patients with significant sedation or cardiovascular toxicity due to poisoning with a less-sedating antihistamine.
Discharge patients if they remain asymptomatic for at least 6 hours after ingestion and have a normal ECG at this time. These patients are unlikely to develop significant toxicity.
Sedative drugs can continue to cause significant cognitive impairment for several days following exposure. Advise patients not to drive or operate machinery for at least 3 days after discharge.
