Key investigations

Key investigations for acute arsenic poisoning are:

  • electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • full blood count
  • serum electrolyte, urea and creatinine concentrations
  • liver biochemistry
  • urinary arsenic concentration in a 24-hour urine collection (see also Toxic concentration)
  • chest and abdominal X-rays—ingested arsenic compounds may be radio-opaque.
