Observation and patient disposition after colchicine poisoning

Admit patients with evidence of multiorgan failure or metabolic signs of severe poisoning after colchicine poisoning to an intensive care unit. Consult early with a clinical toxicologist about definitive treatment and disposition.

Patients who have ingested more than 6 mg or 0.1 mg/kg of colchicine should be observed for at least 24 hours, for the development of gastrointestinal effects (vomiting, diarrhoea) or severe poisoning.
