Management overview for flecainide poisoning
Note: Urgently contact a clinical toxicologist or poisons information centre if flecainide poisoning is suspected.
Flecainide is a class IC antiarrhythmic drug, with potent sodium channel blocking effects. Poisoning is rare, but can be rapidly fatal with profound cardiovascular collapse. If flecainide poisoning is suspected, urgently contact a clinical toxicologist or poisons information centre (13 11 26).
Management priorities include resuscitation, gastrointestinal decontamination with activated charcoal and serum alkalinisation. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may be required in severe poisoning.
