Observation and patient disposition after glyphosate poisoning
Admit patients to hospital for at least 24 hours if they have gastrointestinal symptoms, or biochemical or blood gas abnormalities. Do not discharge patients until:
- blood gas analysis is normal
- biochemistry is improving
- gastrointestinal symptoms have resolved.
After ingestion of more than 1.5 mL/kg of glyphosate concentrate, admit patients to hospital for at least 24 hours of ECG monitoring.
If patients have ingested less than 1.5 mL/kg of glyphosate concentrate, they can be discharged after at least 6 hours of observation if they remain asymptomatic and have no biochemical or blood gas abnormalities.
