Observation and patient disposition after paraquat poisoning
Patients who have ingested any volume of paraquat should be admitted for at least 24 hours, even if they are asymptomatic. Repeat the key investigations and seek advice from a clinical toxicologist before discharging the patient.
Patients with dermal or inhalational exposure to paraquat are unlikely to have significant poisoning and can be discharged if they remain asymptomatic after at least 6 hours of observation.
