Observation and patient disposition after insecticide poisoning
Specific observation and patient disposition advice for organophosphate and carbamate poisonings is given here.
Admit any patient who has deliberately ingested an insecticide.
Discharge patients if:
- they remain asymptomatic for at least 6 hours after accidental ingestions or inhalational exposures
- they are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms following dermal exposures.
After ocular irrigation, discuss ocular injuries with an ophthalmologist before discharge.
