Treatment for methaemoglobinaemia

Methaemoglobinaemia can be caused by large prilocaine or benzocaine exposures, and occasionally articaine, lidocaine or tetracaine (amethocaine) exposures. For information on methaemoglobinaemia and treatment with methylene blue, see Methaemoglobinaemia. Methylene blue is not an antidote for local anaesthetic poisoning, but is indicated specifically for those local anaesthetic poisonings that cause methaemoglobinaemia.
